Facilities Planning Steering Committee
Facilities planning is derived from the University’s strategic plan. Several committees, representing key University constituencies, work together to provide facilities governance for the University. This governance sets forth protocols to ensure facilities decisions for Virginia Commonwealth University are strategically aligned, collaborative, well-informed, evidence-based, sustainable, executable, and resourced. Great Place: HR Redesign
VCU is redesigning its human resources structure to modernize and support the recruitment and retention of a diverse and progressive faculty, staff, and senior leadership. This is an inclusive and collaborative project in response to the 2013 Great Place Initiative survey in which faculty and staff expressed the need to reform and improve practices around compensation, career advancement, performance management and professional development.

Learning and Development Council
The Learning and Development council creates and manages a live hub of learning and development data, information, and resources that VCU faculty and staff, and Learning and Development professionals, can easily access and then effectively use to learn and work better. The Council advocates for a university culture in which all employees engage in and practice continuous learning and development.
VCU Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) Investment Committee
The VCU Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) is a defined contribution plan in which eligible VCU faculty may elect to participate in lieu of participating in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) defined benefit plan. The university makes a contribution equal to a specified percentage of creditable compensation for ORP participants. VCU is the plan sponsor for the ORP. As a part of its fiduciary responsibilities, the university established a VCU Investment Committee of faculty and senior administrators who review the investment companies and administer the plan and the investment options offered.
Parking and Transportation
Parking and Transportation have established an advisory committee to provide recommendations to Virginia Commonwealth University's office of the vice president for administration regarding policy decisions related to both parking and transportation. The purpose of the committee is to ensure parking and transportation decisions for VCU are strategically aligned, collaborative, well-informed, evidence-based, sustainable, executable, and resourced.

Safety and Risk Management
Enterprise Risk Management
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Steering Committee exists to create and foster a holistic organization-wide approach to risk management that increases communication and integrates risk management with strategic planning. The ERM Steering Committee will be the University’s representative body to identify, manage and communicate the full range of strategic, financial, reputational and operational risks the University faces.
Institutional Biosafety Committee
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) reviews proposed research or work to be conducted at or on behalf of the University that involves recombinant/synthetic DNA (rDNA) for compliance with the “NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules.” The IBC approves Memorandums of Understanding and Agreement (MUAs) for research that is in compliance with NIH Guidelines, and that can safely be performed at VCU.
Laboratory Safety Committee
The LCSC is charged with fostering and ensuring a culture of laboratory safety. The LCSC will focus on general laboratory safety including but not limited to hazardous materials, physical hazards and occupational hazards. The LCSC will formulate and recommend to the Associate Vice President of Safety and Risk Management and the Vice President of Research guidelines for laboratory safety and hazardous chemicals and processes and monitor compliance at the University of federal, state and local regulations.
Radiation Safety Committee
The Radiation Safety Committee (RSC) has overall responsibility for the development and recommendation of comprehensive policies, procedures, and guidelines for the safe use of all sources of radiation including all clinical and research uses of radioactive materials and ionizing radiation producing devices. The Committee is charged with review of the university’s radiation safety program to determine that all activities are being conducted in accordance with radiation safety policy, license conditions, and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Partnerships
The VCU Police Department is always open to collaborating with students, faculty, staff, neighbors, organizations, and businesses. Through these partnerships, the department is better able to raise awareness about safety practices, contribute to those in need and be active members of the greater Richmond community. Crime Prevention & Community Policing
Throughout the year, a dedicated team of officers meets with new students, faculty, and staff for orientations to the university. The team also participates in numerous outreach events to promote personal safety and property protection. VCU Technology Services
The IT governance process at VCU is about the proper stewardship of IT resources on behalf of University stakeholders to ensure they receive the highest return on their investment in technology. VCU sought guidance from the Gartner Group, a leading independent IT research, and advisory firm, in the development of our IT governance process. Our process seeks to combine the best practices in IT Governance with VCU’s unique needs as a major research institution of higher education.
Student Technology Advisory Committee
The VCU Student Technology Advisory Committee (STAC) is intended to form a cooperation between VCU Technology Services and the academic and social life of undergraduates at VCU. The Committee advises VCU Technology Services in matters related to service design and implementation, programming, and promotion of technology at VCU.
Technology Advisory Committee
The Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) provides advisory and communications channels among Technology Services, the schools and College, and major administrative units. The Committee provides advice to the Chief Information Officer on school/departmental needs, as well as central technology services and directions.
Web User's Group
The Web Users Group (WUG) exists to facilitate communication between web developers and web managers from across different areas of the university. During our bi-annual meetings, members share new tools and techniques, experiences with projects, or details about changes in VCU’s web presence.

Real Estate Advisory and Space Management Committee
Real estate acquisition, space management planning, and utilization are derived from the university’s master plan which is informed by the institutional strategic plan. Stakeholders representing key constituencies from the various units across VCU’s campuses and within VCU Health collaborate to ensure oversight and coordination of real estate activities and governance around decision-making for the university and VCU Health. This governance establishes consistent protocols ensuring critical decisions for VCU are strategically aligned, collaborative, well-informed, evidence-based, sustainable, executable, and properly resourced.
